How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of playing card design?
My designs demonstrate my knowledge of playing card design because they contain symmetry so you view it from any angle and still know what it is. My number and picture cards also match the layout of actual cards because they have the card number with the suit underneath and a design in the middle.
How would the rest of the deck look? What would you do for the other picture cards?
The rest of my deck would feature other cultural symbols from around the world. For example, the queen would be a Greek goddess, the jack would be Japanese emperor, and the joker would be Moai statue.
How does your design demonstrate your knowledge of Adobe Illustrator?
My designs demonstrates my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator because I used the image trace and live paint tools to convert the images into vectors and change their colors to fit my color scheme. I also used the rotate and reflect tools to make sure the designs were symmetrical and balanced. In addition, I used a drop shadow on the Egyptian pharaoh on my picture card to make him stand-out.
What do you feel was the most challenging part of this project and why?
I feel the most challenging part of the project was coming up with a good idea that fit within the project's requirement. Because the theme was assigned to me, it took me a good deal of brainstorming to think of an original, coherent idea that could span across several cards. The project planning sheet was helpful in organizing my ideas.
If you can change one requirements what would it be and why?
I wouldn't change any of the project requirements because although they were challenging, they gave the cards a sense of realism while still giving us some artistic license. However, I would have liked to print my designs out and photograph them instead of manipulating them in Adobe Photoshop.
