Letterform Design Project
What is a letterform design?
A letter-form design is a type of design that is composed entirely of letters, numbers, or symbols. A letter-form design puts emphasis on the individual shape of the letter to give off a certain aesthetic.
What was your job as the designer?
My job as the designer was to choose nine letters, three colors, and three fonts, and edit the letters in Adobe Illustrator in accordance to a pre-designed criteria. For example, in Design 1, I was only allowed to use one letter, which had to be cropped in an interesting way by the art board.
What were some of the challenges you faced during this project?
One of the challenges I faced during this project were having to edit my designs to follow the requirements when I thought I was already done with them. For example, I used three different fonts for the number "3" in my original design for Design 4, but I later realized I could only use one font per design.
Do you feel you successfully completed the project? Why/why not?
I feel that I successfully completed the project because I was able to create nine unique letterform designs that followed each design's individual requirements using my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, letterform design and the elements of design.
If you can change something about the project, what would it be and why?
One thing I would change about the project was the limit of two colors plus white in each design; I think that some of my designs would look more interesting if I was able to use all three colors plus white in them. However, I think the other limitations of the project make sense so each design is uniform in fonts and colors, but completely different otherwise.
