Font Pairing Project

Assignment 3
Assignment 4
Assignment 5
Assignment 2

What does it mean to create a font pairing?

A font pairing is finding and pairing two or more fonts that work well and look like they belong together.

What are the four assignments you chose to do? Write the name of the assignment and describe your design for each.

The four assignments I chose to do were Assignments 3, 4, 5, and 2.

For Assignment 3, I chose to make a font pairing for The High Line in New York City. I used a fun font for "The High Line" and a more traditional-looking font for "New York City." "The High Line" curves around the horizon, making it the focal point.

For Assignment 4, I used some lyrics from Beyoncé's hit song, "Yoncé," and gave characteristic fonts to the words "Sneezed," "Beat," and "Sickah" to emphasize them.

For Assignment 5, I used the lyrics from Hello by Adele and decided to give it a more ominous twist based off of the second meaning for "other side." I used two creepy fonts, a more distinct font for "Hello" and "Side" and a simpler one for "from the."

For Assignment 2, I used Muhammad Ali's quote "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" and divided the art board into two halves with inverted colors for each part of the quote. "Float like a" and "Sting like a" have the same font because they are less important than "butterfly" and "bee," which are two very different fonts.

Which assignment would you say is your BEST font pairing and why?

I'd say that Assignment 3 is my best font pairing because I think the two fonts contrast each other well and I like the effects I added to the photo.

Which assignment would you say is your Least Successful font pairing and why?

I'd say Assignment 2 is my least successful font pairing because I think it's kind of plain and I would like to go back and change the fonts for "Butterfly" and "Float like a, sting like a" because the former font is not very unique and the latter font is too similar to the one I used for "Bee."

How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult?

I would describe the font pairing process as exciting because there are so many different things you can do with it. You can make a font pairing for every phrase imaginable. Font pairing can also be difficult because the default fonts that come with your program might not be the most interesting, so you have to go online and search for some to download.
